Kayla Smith graduated from Multnomah University in 2015, majoring in Bible and Theology with a minor in Educational Ministries. She took pastoral, women's ministry, psychology and education classes with the desire to learn how to best serve people, and is now completing her Masters in Counseling through Multnomah University. As an intern at a New Life Christian Counseling center, she is under the supervision of Brad Peterson, LMHC.
Ministry / Work Experience:
Over the past two years, Kayla has worked as an Instructional Assistant serving Elementary and Middle school students with special needs, including Autism and a broad spectrum of related disorders. Prior to this, Kayla was the middle and high school youth director at her local church. She has volunteered at numerous camps and loves working with teens.
Kayla is passionate about working with women and children. She believes the family unit is incredibly important and wishes to help families develop stronger, more healthy and lasting relationships. Kayla believes in applying effective tools to develop better communication skills, and desire to help people find meaning and healing in their lives through the counseling relationship. She has an integrated counseling approach and tends to use Strengths-Based, Solution-Focused, Narrative and Attachment theory. Kayla is certified by Prepare and Enrich to give a detailed assessment to couples who need marriage or premarital counseling.
